Welcome

In 2006 a study of
178 countries around the world decided that the Happiest Place on Earth is
Vanuatu in the South Pacific. New Economics Foundation based its finding on
studies measuring people’s well-being and their impact on the environment, and
took into account life satisfaction, life expectancy, and the amount of land
required to sustain the population and absorb its energy consumption.
“Life in Vanuatu is more about community values, our families and
goodwill within our communities and to visitors to our country.”
Tafea
is the southernmost province of Vanuatu. The name is an acronym for the five
islands that make up the province:
Tanna,
Aneityum
(also
Anatom),
Futuna,
Erromango and
Aniwa
The
province has a population of 27,530 people and an area of 1,628 km˛. Its capital
is Isangel (situated on Tanna). Most of the islands are Melanesian, but the
smallest two, Aniwa and Futuna, are Polynesian outliers. Futuna is sometimes
called West Futuna to distinguish it from Futuna Island, Wallis and
Futuna.
